which motherboard for basic raid?
Hi Guys
I'm looking for a basic Asus motherboard but which has RAID as a function, it's mainly going to be used for backup purposes only really. I thought all new motherboards had raid function? Some of these show up as saying "none".
Can anyone please advise?

Re: which motherboard for basic raid?
Most (if not all) do. You have linked to intel mobos....is that because you have a chip already? If the machine is just beign used for backup, I would recommend a much cheaper AMD system.
Re: which motherboard for basic raid?
Yes i already have a basic i3 chip, it's also used for some crunching.
If nearly all intel motherbaords do it, why is it that some say in the description RAID : SATA and some say RAID: NONE.
Do some of these have a dedicated raid chip?
For example this does not say raid: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...vga)-dvi-d-atx
and this says raid: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...i-d-sub-(vga)-
i.m just a bit confused as it's going to run SBS 2011 and need raid to run.
Re: which motherboard for basic raid?
According to Intels B75 documentation, it has Intel Rapid Storage technology.....of which one of it's features is raid.

I guess Asus maybe remove the RAID firmware from the BIOS if those boards really do not do RAID....fairly easy to put back in though if that's the case.
Re: which motherboard for basic raid?
It's strange why they would remove it?
But just need to be sure before I purchase it, as I don't really want to mess around with putting raid back on, just need it to be ready to use without any issues or patches.
Re: which motherboard for basic raid?
I wouldn't risk it then, very little info about those boards.
