New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
So, I have just built my new machine (spec in sig), checked every cable and plugged it in...No Power! Any advice? I really dont know what could be wrong, I have used stand-offs, so I know its not that. Everything seems to be in the correct place (Photos to follow)...:wallbash:

Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
No LED's no nothing ?
On at the wall ?
Bad power cable ?
Dead PSU ?
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Nope, nothing. No fans, no lights, nothing. Just completely dead...
Its on at the wall...
Should the PSU fan start spinning as soon as power lead is inserted and PSU on switch is on? Its not.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Fuse?
Grounding on the case? (as above - no LEDs on the mobo?)
Switch on the PSU itself on?
Failing all that, rebuild out of the case and check.

Turned the PSU on using the switch at the back?
Failing that, go back to basics, unplug the PSU connections from the rest of the computer and short pins 14+15 on the 24 pin connector with a paperclip, it should start the PSU (you can switch it off with the rear switch or at the wall after). If not, try connecting up a hard drive or something that'll take a little bit of load and repeat.

So, Just to confirm I stick a paperclip (either end) in 14 and 15, then plug it into the wall and switch it on?
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Double check the case switch connections on the motherboard.

Yes, That is it.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Great, thanks for that. The power supply started up, so thats not the issue...
MoBo maybe? How can I test it?
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
have you checked the front panel headers on the board to make sure you have the power switch connected to the right pins?
If it is a new case there is a chance the power switch could be faulty.
You could check by VERY carefully touching a small bladed screwdriver across the 2 powerswitch pins on the motherboard and seeing it if comes to life. Just be careful not to short anything out.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
This may sound like a stupid question, but which way round should the power switch connectors go in the front panel header. My Power Switch connecter has PWR SW wrote on one side of the connector (and my board has PWR next to the correct pins), and the other side of the connector is blank. Should the blank side have its back to the pins in the adjacent row, or should it have its back to the rest of the board (hope that makes sense...)
EDIT:
Even if the power switch was not working, as long as the PSU is connected to the board, i should see some activity on the board its self (LED'S), shouldnt I? At the minute, im getting nothing, not even the PSU is starting up when connected to the board.

It does not matter as long as it is on the correct pins should be on pins 6 & 8.

Nothing is going to happen until the signal is given from the board to the PSU. When you press the power switch the motherboard does what you did with the paperclip on the PSU plug.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
OK thank you for all your help. Going to call it a night, and try again tomorrow. An element of doubt has crept in about the way i connected the switch to the header...Will update tomorrow.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Yeah now you've verified the PSU is alive (in some sense at least) it's just a case of adding things each time and finding out where the problem is. Could be the case switch/button for example - check the wires from the front panel connector and see if they are connected to the switch OK.
You can do the equivalent of the paper clip trick by using a jumper/wire to connect the pins for the power switch on the motherboard, that will take the case switch out of the equation and allow you to check the rest of the motherboard etc., but I think you're right in that the area to focus on is probably either the switch or the switch connection to the motherboard.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
While I can't imagine this is the problem, try running without the graphics card in. Anything you can eliminate entirely will only help with diagnosis.
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Thanks for all the help, after a decent nights sleep I figured it out this morning. Removed the front panel from the case, inclipped the Power switch from the connectors in the case, then reconnected. Tried again, and it worked. All that hassle last night over something so small... Thanks again

I'd love to be able to say I've never made an elementary mistake during a build. But I can't. :)
Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
This doesn't look good either, it seems that it's not plugged in properly:

Re: New Build - NO POWER! Please Help
Sorted that too, completely removed PSU and re-installed this morning. Everything working fine now. Really pleased with the machine.
