Cheap basic internal Blu-ray drive any recommendations?

I'm looking for a basic internal blu-ray drive, no writing capabilities no lightscribe for under £35, for some reason all internal Blu-ray drives are kept at an inflated prices, while full sized Blu-ray players can be had for as little as £30 and under.

    Examples:
    4x Blu-ray Reader, 8x DVD Reader from LiteOn IHOS104-06 £38 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/liteo...m-inc-software
Samsung Slim SATA BD Combo £32.78 inc del =May need a drive caddy for standard desktop case?
    http://www.cclonline.com/product/723...e-OEM/CDR0078/

    Ebay risky option:
    LAPTOP INTERNAL 4X SLIM BLU-RAY DVD+/-RW DL DRIVE Aprox £27+ SATAhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAPTOP-INT...item19d5f19360

Hopefully I've posted this in the correct place?

Re: Cheap basic internal Blu-ray drive any recommendations?

If you can, i'd say just get a Blu-Ray player. There are far too many hoops to jump through where Blu-Ray playback is concerned on PC.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Please expand, it isn't as simple as sticking a blu-ray disk in the drive with the supplied software for playback?

I had hoped to backup my blu-rays as you would a dvd collection, but having said that the level of encryption may be too complex for the uninitiated to bypass these days.

Not really, software is updated all the time, I had to replace my software as it wouldn't update it (Cyberlink Power DVD 9 to 12)

While it's technically possible, bypassing encryption is illegal so don't go down that route.

Blu-ray is actually a fairly fluid standard - they keep adding bits to it like 3D, or seamless alternate streams, or fancy bookmarking etc. and it's got to the point that you have to keep updating the firmware even for stand alone blu-ray players. Internal blu-ray drives should be just as firmware upgradable, but they seem to leave a lot to software instead, and then you're at the mercy of the software providers. For laughs, just look at how many versions of player software there have been.. even from the same company. It's not just version number, but pro/classic/ultra.. they all have different features available so it's a bit of a minefield, and you can't guarentee that when a new standard/feature comes out for your next season of Game of Thrones or whatever, that said software provider won't release a whole new software version and charge you to use it.

Re: Cheap basic internal Blu-ray drive any recommendations?

(RANT!)It just isn't worth it, I'm off the idea completely on my minimum wage salary it costs me nearly half a day's salary per blu-ray/DVD and I cant even play it in the medium I wish , the movie industry has us all by the gooseberries and the UK government are their lapdogs!!.
I'd go the online route via Lovefilm/Amazon but I live in Wales = 50kb connection where our beloved government knows better than to waste money on broadband and infrastructure!!..(RANT!)
    descends into gibberish.....£"%=-Bettydavies@LJHLhit.me..with,,rhythmstick.

If you're on minimum wage stick with DVDs - they're almost as good, and far far cheaper (pick up second hand ones for pence these days). Heck I've only just stopped using a CRT TV because it was plenty good enough.

I'd agree with a standalone, or a PS3 is even easier as it updates itself with system updates.

Wise counsel one and all, I concur with all of the above.

Disturbing image compliments of Google image search, enjoy!!!
