Opteron and registered RAM

To run an opteron, do u need to use registered ram, or can i just use normal memory?

is it the same for xeon to?
was starting to eye up a dual processor rig

unless you plan to go with a skta athlon dual processor, i dont think they need expensive ram etc. very cost effective and not exactly underpowered when you compare it to the xeons.

S940 chips, Opteron & FX require ECC reg ram. Pain in the bum, but seeing as they're predominantly server chips, uber reliability is required.
