    System Advice

Hey im new to the boards and this place was recommended by a friend.

The situation is that ive currently got a MSI P4 Mobo (648F neo) with a Intel P4 2.4Ghz and 1Gb DDR-333 2700. I got the CPU free off a mate as it wasn't in perfect condition. Well by now its almost and the end of its life so im going to need a new CPU.

As im about to move to uni i thought i better upgrade my pc before i go. Ive never been a big fan of pentium so ive been considering moving back to AMD.

So is there any point of actually changing my mobo, ram and cpu ( ive been looking at the AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Asus K8N-E Deluxe and Geil® Value 1Gb PC3200) or should i just get a new pentium?

Im looking to spend about £250ish.

    Thanks for any help

What do you do with your system , ie games , surfing , video encoding.
There would be no point upgrading you CPU if some other part of your system is holding you back.
By the way you could re-use your existing memory in a 754 mobo.

I use my PC for Gaming, Surfing, Office apps and photoshop.

The only reason i was looking at new memory was to change from 2700 to 3200

    All I can say is that when I change from a Barton 3200 to a A64 3000 I got about a 10% gain in 3D mark 03 but when I changed from a 9800 Pro to a Geforce 6800GT I got about a 100% increase in 3D mark 03.

Office apps and surfing have seemed about the same since I hit 1.5Ghz and I don't do any photoshop.
