    Pin-Modding for a Pin-head

ok guys ive been pussy footing around the idea for a while now, a mobile barton athlon jobby, the two are the 2400 and the 2500, i understand that the 2400 is better as it runs at 1.35v compared to the 2500 @1.4

this is all fine and dandy exept for my problematic mobo. i read ona post on here a whiel ago that for my mobo and this cpu (my mobo is a asus a7v8x-x) i would have to pin mod the cpu. also i jsut thought of this my mobo only goes as low as 1.6v woudl this be a problem? surely im going to overclcok! lol but what do you guys think?

    thanks for your help guys

Well the A7V8X-X is a KT400 chipset mobo, so it only supports FSBs of 166 (although you may be able to get it up to 180-190 depending on your RAM, graphics card etc.). So, to get the CPU to really high speeds you might need to pin-mod the board to allow it to use multipliers of 12.5 and upwards. I would use at least 1.6V to get a decent overclock out of the chip, so don't worry about that.

Pin modding is pretty easy if you take your time and do it carefully, and take care to line the CPU up perfectly before slotting it in.

Yes, the motherboard will have options to run the FSB up to 200, but as the PCI/AGP bus speeds are not locked, at 200MHz you'll be running your graphics card, and more than likely all your IDE devices etc, well out of spec, which will probably cause instability.

The classic pinmod guide is at www.ocinside.de
