    Disk Space

Why are some of my drives not showing the correct amount of space that has been used on them. I got one partition that is saying that I have used all 60GB but all the files including the hidden ones only add up to 40GB.

    Any ideas welcome.

First off check your System restore settings - right click My Computer then system restore tab - It defaults to 15% of your HDD. Look at the settings and either turn it off if you dont use it or put it to 2% or 3%.

You could also check the amount of space used by Virtual memory. Right click my computer, advanced tab, performance bezel, settings button, advanced tab, virtual memory bezel, change button to set it to a new value. I have mine at a 'custom size' of 512 Mb and I have 1Gb or RAM. Most people suggest setting it at a constant value (custom size) of 2x or 2.5x your total RAM. Choose custom size and put the same value in both boxes to prevent your virtual memory size from fluctuating.

    Hope it helps.

    P.S. I hate Symantec software.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Norton AntiVirus is ****ing annoying, in the way that it likes to replace your Recycle Bin with a "protected" recycle bin.

Which actually never empties, it just shoves it somewhere else.

    How thoughtful.

Run scandisk (and defrag) too, its vaguely possible that the FAT has become slightly dodgy or some files are missing headers/footers that you haven't spotted, or something else along those kind of lines, especially if the drive got to capacity or near capacity within the past mopnth or 3.
