So these things...



Not cat5/rj45 plugs in general. But the ones with a hard plastic shield that's impossible to pinch. Why do they exist? Currently I am having to use a Philips head screw driver to press them and release.

Are they purposely difficult to unplug? Am I meant to know of and have a tool that helps detach them?

The covers are, AFAIK, meant to avoid the clips snagging when you pull the cables through gaps or past each other. The ones I've used have always been relatively easy to push down though, even the ones with fairly tough covers. Perhaps you've just been unlucky with the brand/batch...?

You could always just use a stanley knife and carefully cut it off?

They're called anti-snag boots which are supposed to be made of soft rubber, i.e. the dome bit which covers the clip is meant to be depressed easily.

I think there was a manufacturing error if the boots on your cables are made of hard plastic.

For under a quid - just buy a new network cable that doesnt have the anti snag boot on there.
