Hi all,
came into work this morning, logged into my PC and after around 5 mins, the whole thing locked up. Reset it, went away for some water and it had a big black screen saying please insert a floppy. Rebooted and the bios couldn't find the drive. Shut the whole thing down, checked the cables to the HD, pushed them in. Powered it up and all was fine. Ran a SMART program on it and it reckons its ok (around 70-80% good), ran a full scandisk with surface scan. It reckons it is pukka. My question is, am I still worth asking for a new HD? I have a rigorous backup regime as it is so I have no worries about my data. Its more downtime I'm worried about. The HD is around 2.5 years old and is the only surviving member of a pack of 4 Maxtor 40GB HDs, all the others failed. It is a 6L040J2 or Diamond Max Plus.
Any help appreciated, I know a lot of you use Maxtor's so if this is a known bad drive that would help.
