    Post O/c'in p****** me off!!!!!!!

    Hi All
I like the idea of overclocking getting more for less but every time I do it i always seem to have to buy more that I throught i would have to, AKA this:

Just got my self an xp-m2500+ and found out after i'd brought it that my pc2700 ram will hinder the clockablity of it, and my mobo isn't the best clocker. Mobo i didn't mind cause always get an NSFv.2 blah blah blah (whatever) but the ram issue's p-me off.

I like tinkering with my pc (prob why it crashes all the time!!) Anyway shall I do I scrap the lot and sell it to a friend and go the whole 64bit option or get new mobo, ram and sata drive, or just up grade and keep xp-m2500+, which maybe for sale soon

May rant has finished ((()))) :'(

    Ps
Can't beat red wine for getting the brain functions toal messed up!

Just increase the multi instead of the fsb then -you'll still get way more out of that CPU than you've paid for
& ideally you need PC3200 (or better) for AMD64 too.

Overclocking is a disease - once the hardware bug bites beware!

depends on you definition of hinder you can still clock the processor but using
a higher multiplier so it keeps the memory in check.

yes faster mem is good but not necessary something that would stop you from
    overclocking the processor.

well at the mo can can't get FSB about 170*10=2400mhz but unstable at the mo running 2240mhz really wanted to brake the 2500mhz on air barrier.

    **Sigh**

    Should have kept my XP1700+

Also maybe up for sale soon!

I think a little forethought may have been useful as it is worth planning ahead when doing things like this or it just costs you money. A processor is only ever as good as the mobo and memory it is partnered with. However the xp-m chips are great and it would certainly be cheaper to get a new mobo and some memory. Check out the bargain hunt section as there is a good offer on at scan at present for a nice o/cing mobo.

Three steps to (hardware) heaven: Prepare. Plan. Execute.

You just seem to be missing the first two. Practice them, it'll save you a fortune! :-)
