only problem with that is zincoxide is not clear, I don't think you can clear plastic that's zinc coated.
That's assuming the tubes he's using are clear.

Re: When watercooling goes bad.. [added EM pics]

I'm pretty sure that a fine coating of ZnO is clear. The wiki article on ZnO also mentions using it to coat window glass to alter its thermal properties. It's quite conceivable that a company might choose to use ZnO as a protective layer on their tubes (possibly even using its thermal properties to attempt to improve performance) and that one of the additives in the loop water has reacted with it to precipitate it into the water.

My main concern is that the chemical analysis of the compound (which sound like it almost certainly is ZnO powder) also contains a number of other metals, most significantly copper. I'm guessing that's been in solution in the water then dried onto the ZnO, but nonetheless it suggests something's been dissolving the copper off the blocks! Well worth being aware of...

No not used colouring in this system but i'm about to - uv blue in the pre mix concentrate.

Just finished the rebuild of all the piping so i'm about to leak test (heartstopper as usual) with ultra pure + mt-1. At least this is all balanced for me and i won't have silver in the system this time. If this goes wrong i'm going back to water wetter!

Some good news - the inside of the cpu block is still shiny copper so the cleaner either did it's job or it wasn't affected.

Yup, zinc oxide is used in plastics too - but until i can analyse a piece of the piping we won't know if it contains it even before it's exposed to chemicals. I'm also thinking some kind of chemical reaction either caused the problem or acted as an accelerant for it.

Right, off to mix me some coolant!
