    Heatsink question

    One quick question guys, is it alright to stick many heat-sinks together? Like I've done on the images (will show them on a link soon). I thought it would provide more cooling.

    Wow that is really low-res, I can't see what you've done. I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd hazard that the only way to be sure is to test. Apart from whether it would work - which I have some doubts - there could be other results from sticking together two different metals - can cause corrosion IIRC.

    Thanks guys, ive order new taller heat sinks, and will be sticking them on their own. Shall see how it goes after leak testing the system

    No, A couple of things to realise
    Thermal barriers, the thermal tape used on heatsinks has far lower heat transfer rates than the metal of a heatsink.
    Blocking air flow, by stacking the heatsinks you're blocking and restricting air flow and even just convection currents.
    Surface area, sticking the heatsinks on top of the fins of the one below it means it's got a far smaller surface area for the heat to get into it.

    Ideally the waterblock should be covering the VRMs, if you're having overheating issues then a spot fan should be considered, ie a fan nearby blowing over or onto that area

    The Enzotech MOS-C10 heatsinks are supposed to be good, tall copper pin design.

    Thanks guys for all the replies.

    I've gone ahead an put those exact heat-sinks on the mosfets & etc. (not stacking them now of course). The PC works HOOZA! - writing from it right now . But I have one finally query, I'm a bit concerned i can't check the temps of the mosfets using inbuilt sensors as there are none - i.e. through any software. I'm pretty sure the card is stable since its been running fine, did minor stress tests on it, as well as played a few games on it. But now would it ever be possible for me to overclock this card safely? in that case how would i be sure of the temps? should i get an infrared gun?
