What wireless print server?
Need a wireless print server as a gift for parents. Just need something simple and effective to allow them to print from machine to printer in another part of house. They have a wireless router. Presume therefore all I need is a wireless print server? Anyone able to recommend one?
(sadly their printer is just too old to have built in wifi in case anyone was going to ask that)
Re: What wireless print server?
Might be better to get a new wireless printer, depending on what their old printer is (or more what the running costs are like).
Re: What wireless print server?
oh it's a nice Canon photo one - they've had it 2 years but never used it because the desk isn't big enough by the computer but the cable won't reach to the other side of the room and it would trip them up. :wallbash:
(aside - they need a facepalm smiley)
Re: What wireless print server?
LOL. That's why my last two printers have had ethernet and wireless connectivity. You could also have a Router with USB connection. But I guess you're too late with those options.
Would this work for you I wonder? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-Eth...6004853&sr=1-1
Re: What wireless print server?
don't think so! AFAIK it needs to be a print server since it won't be plugged/wireless to the machine but the router.
Re: What wireless print server?
I can't see how that works. You have to connect to the printer and then "talk" to the router. You can do that either via LAN or wireless. Otherwise you might as well just replace your router, but then it would have to be placed near to the printer.

Re: What wireless print server?
LAN/USB wireless print server it does the talking to the router. Your machine sees it as a network printer. My query was can anyone recommend a good one?
Re: What wireless print server?
If the printer has a LAN port you could use a wireless bridge or a home plug rather than a USB print server. That way you're using the printer's own server which may be easier to setup and use.

Epsons are fantasic as they are individual inks so you only replace what you need, where as most printers have just two cartridges, 1 black and 1 tri-colour, on the tri-clour if you run out of one colour you will need to replace the full cartride where as with epson you replace what you need :)
