Looking @ scan 3XS Z77 Vengeance OC

I mostly use pc for video and some gaming nothing heavy. I have a lot of data I keep on pc and want a fast bootup, fast system as I have it for several years.

My last pc which I got parts from scan is just over 4 years old at time I used good quality parts for future proofing

any chance I need confused between what mobos to get

If i was u, I choose Gigabyte over Intel and buy a Full Tower Case.

The only major differences I can see between the motherboards is that the Asus one has 4-way SLI whereas the Gigabyte only has 2, not much of a problem if you're not gonna go above 2-way, and the Asus has WiFi onboard. Other than that seems like a solid build.

Well if it only comes down to the boards having different sli capabilities, it doesn't matter, because the psu you're choosing will only support one card anyway...

If your gaming needs are fairly basic, I'd personally save a bit on the graphics card; the GTX 680 is a fairly robust - and expensive - choice. What resolution do you game at, & which type of games do you play? If it were me, I'd probably drop down to a GTX 660 Ti or 7950, & put the difference towards a larger SSD, or even two SSDs in raid 0. If you're rendering or editing video, lots of fast storage on hand is always useful.

Of course the caveat to the above suggestion, is whether the video software you use supports GPU acceleration of some sort? The 3770K does support Quicksync encoding, but programs that utilise it aren't that common. Having said that, I believe future versions of Handbrake will support it, but I don't think it's available yet.

Memory: I would always get 2x8Gb over 4x4Gb, both form a stability and an expansion viewpoint.

I went with the i5-3570k as suggested above, because the i7 is very little different in the real world and I preferred to spend money elsewhere... for motherboard & CPU Cooler, my choice was the Asus P8Z77-V PRO & the Corsair Hydro H80i. Yes the motherboard has things I don't need, but it's well put together, has the best BIOS and it's by ASUS, who have not put many feet wrong over the years - after 24 years of building my own and other's PCs I tend to prefer not to save money on motherboards. While in testing the Gigabyte may show as very comparable to the Asus, will it last as long, and/or be as desirable if you come to sell it on?

For the HS my reasoning was simply that I don't like these huge HSFs in a Tower Case, and it gives very good cooling at a decent sound level (on the mid-level setting).

looks good to me however change the hard drive to western digital caviar black for better warranty, or the hitachi hd, change your psu to corsair ax series, again fully modular, longer warranty and more efficent, for the sound i rather go integrated, also i change the cpu cooler to a corsair h100i if you overclocking it as it neater and easier to install, i note you got no mouse or keyboard go for the mechanical series of keyboard and a gaming mouse, either roccat or razer do good one
