not entierly sure what it is tbh lol
but its qtec so nay
Water Cooler AMD Heatpipe , hmm qtec it'll leak
Not to sure about the whole alumunium thing going on it much prefer copper, I'd quicker buy something from Zalman. check out some reviews maybe. Could be a fantastic cooler!
Anyone noticed a shift in QTECs strategy to make products that include water?
A quite sensible move i think given their record

I have just fitted this cooler to my AMD Athlon 3200+Barton to replace a Coolermaster XDream II.
The Coolermaster Idled @ 47deg C and after rendering a 1hr video was showing 56deg C.
The Q-TEC Idles @ 27deg C and after rendering a 1hr video is showing 33deg C.
these are silent and worth the trouble. some can be too big for the MB though.
Big gimmick...big nay!
Sooty...1 post eh? How long has your son owned QTEC?
Big thread revival!
ALmost a year old people. Let Q-tec die.

An all-copper cooler that size would definitely exceed the recommended limits, and should definitely not be mounted vertically without additional support.
Sorry for the long ramble but you did ask for my thoughts on the subject! So here goes
I Have a Gigabyte GA-7NNXP Motherboard sat in a Coolermaster Stacker case.
My OS is WinXP Home and this is on a WD Raptor 35GB, I also use a Maxtor 80GB SATA HDD as a scratch disk for Adobe Photoshop elements and Adobe Premier elements.
I also have 2 IDE drives a 160GB for storing video and a 120GB for storing photo's.
I guess my problems started when I changed my AMD athlon 1700+ for a AMD athlon 3200+ barton, the 1700+ was quite happy with the stock HSF but the 3200+ with stock HSF was hovering in the low to middle 60s which I think is unacceptable so I needed to get it cooler.
The GA-7NNXP does not have any mounting holes in the board so the best bolt on coolers were not an option I have to go for a clip on solution.
I fitted a Coolermaster XDream 2 using Arctic Silver5 temps with this seemed ok 38c Idle 45c Load
but as soon as the warm weather came the temps started to rise 47c Idle 56c Load and sometimes hitting the low 60s in the afternoon when the sun was on my window. So I went to my local computer shop to get a stronger 80mm fan to fit the XDream but he did not have any.
I saw a Gigabyte 3D Rocket cooler on his shelf I have read some good reports on this but it is huge 105x105x119 and weighing 500g I really would not like to hang that on a chip! so the guy in the shop came out with this Q-Tec 100x75x62 much smaller than the 3D Rocket but weighs the same
I had never heared of Q-Tec but at less than £20.00 decided to give it a go.
Fitting the Q-Tec was not without its problems when I offered it up to the chip I noticed the fan was pointing to the rear of the case this meant I could not fit the HSF without removing the DPS (dual power supply) riser board permanently from my motherboard which is something I did not want to do.
I went to the Q-Tec site hoping to find some fitting instructions but their support site is useless so I Googled hoping to find a review? No reviews the only thing I came across was this thread at Hexus but when I read it my heart sank (Oh my god I have bought a pup).
Well at less than 20 quid I decided to see if I could hobble it.The blue guard that fits over the fins only has lugs on one side for fitting the fan and this is attatched to the base with four small screws, so I unscrewed these to try and spin the fan to the opposite side but it did not move.
I noticed on the bottom of the unit it has four more screws holding the aluminum fins tight to the base so I extracted these and the unit turned I turned it 180degs so the fan was pointing to the front of the case and carefully retightened the eight screws wonderful it would fit now but now the fan was covering the clip to fit it to the chip, I removed the fan applied Arctic Silver5 to the chip and fitted the Heat Sink then I refitted the fan insitu this was a little awkward but not impossible.
I fired up the comp and I am over the moon with the resulting temps 27deg Idle 33deg load I have been using it for about 3 weeks now and even in the afternoon when my room warms up it has never reached 30degs at Idle.
OK it could have been designed better and it probably looks cheap and cheerful but it does the job and for less than 20 quid what more do you want?
Artic freezers are probably the best all in one solution right now.
XP120 is arguably the best performance -period- but that depends on your fan, and your budget.
The XP120 and Freezers don't work with Socket A, I think.
