PC speakers Versus Home Cinema Speakers

I know its really popular to connect up hifi systems to comps, I'm currently hot swapping between my 5.1 Phillips PC speakers and my Sharp Mini hifi - but what about the 5.1 home cinema speakers you can get?

Those two are only examples but I'm sure you get what I mean. It seems like no one has thought of connecting a system like that rather than a proper hifi or proper PC speakers.

The sound quality should be much better from a decent set of stereo or 5.1 surround sound hi fi speakers if a decent 5.1 or stereo amp is used. If you are using a soundcard or motherboard that has digital outputs then even better.

It depends what you are going to use the system on - music, games, dvd, watching telly? For music you really want a dedicated 2 channel amp with some proper speakers (and stands). This doesn't have to be expensive to get a good sound.

5.1 on the other hand you have to be a little more careful in the budget arena.

thats what i do oxygen, i have my home cinema system connected via an optical cable to my PC> works like a dream

but dont buy a sony one as their dvd players need chips to be multi region

Yeah - also choosing your components seperately is often a good idea. Personally I have my hifi used with my PC as well as TV/DVD and bought all the components seperately (See sig for details), cost around £500ish by the end (ex. TV, DVD etc.) ... sounds great though

I use my £500+ home cinema system hooked up via co-ax - need to get an optical cable but my CC is still not got enough space

I got some Creative S750 speakers. I must say that the sound quality is very good for pc speakers. Never tried any hifi equipment though.
