Buying New PC Need Advice :)

Hey guys, basically i'm looking for a new pc, not stupidly high spec but enough to run games like chivalry and skyrim on decent settings.. so far i've found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1907828237...84.m1438.l2649 £300 is around the price i want to spend and this pc seems alright to me.. just need a bit more expert advice! if anyone could tell me how this pc will handle these games and any other games that you know would run smoothly on this system that'd be great any suggestions for a similar priced pc of a similar spec are welcome! all advice is useful, thanks! Also, a friend of mine is running an ATI Radeon 4800 series graphics card which i know runs these games so if anyone can tell me how this one compares that'd be useful

That system won't run games very well. The graphics card is not very good and I suspect the PSU is not great either.

Can you list all the other games you might intend to play in the next few months on the computer??

What resolution monitor do you have and can you increase the budget??

Can't really increase the budget sadly. Will be purchasing a monitor after the pc i think, tbh chivalry and skyrim are probably the only two i'll bother with.

Re: Buying New PC Need Advice :)

You can probably could just about get a Pentium dual core and a HD7770 into the budget I think. However,do you have a copy of Windows??

Regarding the CPU choice,Skyrim should be OK on a dual core, but I am not sure about the other game. Having had a look at its requirements even the recommended specifications list suggests a dual core will be fine.

What else do you do with the PC apart from gaming??

yeah, have a spare copy lying around and I use my laptop for everything else tbh, it'll be used for the games and just general things like browsing the net and itunes.. nothing demanding

The parts come from Ebuyer and you can get cashback too:

    http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ebuyer/

    http://www.quidco.com/ebuyer/

I would get this case from Amazon too:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

You can get Nectar points on Amazon purchases.

I would have preferred to use an ATX motherboard as it has more expansion slots but it would increased the cost even more. Ebuyer are selling an older Z68 based motherboard which should do the job but it is hard to say which BIOS version it ships with. The motherboard has USB3.0 and SATA3.0 ports though,so you should be fine if you want to add an SSD or use USB3.0 enable storage. The motherboard also has 4 RAM slots too.

The case also has decent cooling and can take long cards too. The CPU is the latest Ivy Bridge based Pentium dual core.

The total comes to around £346.

It for you really cannot go over budget,Novatech sells some reasonable quality FSP PSUs:

    http://www.cclonline.com/product/982...t-OEM/PSU0486/

    http://www.cclonline.com/product/763...W-PSU/PSU0307/

My mate is running an Athlon II X3 and a HD7770 off the 400W one. Both PSUs are based on older designs but are still reasonably efficient:

    http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...-oem-psus.html

The XFX PSU is better though.

You can also get cashback from Novatech too.

BTW,you will need a 64 bit copy of Windows too.

That HD6870 has no warranty so of course it is cheaper!!

I would rather get a secondhand card off Ebay TBH,because at least there is some buyer protection. However, again if the card goes kaput two months later, you won't get a replacement, unless the seller is willing to handle any remaining warranty.

Hehe well you can find one used with some warranty for same price as the 7770!!

Definitely worth it in terms of performance and bang for buck

You mean like that single fan XFX HD6870 on the OcUK B-grade section??

Luckily me and another member on OcUK managed to warn off someone from buying it. It is a card with horrible cooling and XFX graphics card warranties have deteriorated in the last few years. OcUK ended up ditching XFX for graphics cards as they themselves got fed up with dealing with them.

No I don't they actually have a Gigabyte for £130 with decent cooling and UK RMA! I was talking about classified at AVForums anyway It's where I picked up my current GPU with about 1 year warranty left as well and no problems so far I'm running a used/b-grade system if anyone needs assurance

I think Cat's origianl HD7770 suggestion because it runs cooler. Also if your budget is that tight and you want risk those FSP power supplies a card which draws less power is a good idea.
