55c is hot for idle most people aim for under 50 idle mine peaks at 52 at full load and 47/48 idle using a Noiseblocker S3@ full speed.
What cfm does your fan have?
Are you running you fan on full or smartfan or speed fan?
Mine only reaches 55 on very very hot days again check sudhian forums for temp info you will find a lot of comparison there.
ok i have this fan Antec Cooling Fan 80mm http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=36338
that's all the cooling i have as that little fan on the mobo smashed when i nasty dvd drive fell on it!!
As long as its stable then there is no real need for worry.
When i aircooled my shuttle I had it at 59 degrees full load overclocked from 1.83 to 2.2ghz (2500@3200 speed)
lethal temperature for an AMD CPU is 80ish or thereabouts so 55 is on the high side of just fine.

mine died too! my shuttle temps are a little nowOriginally Posted by Jamie Sherman
That little fan is on your northbridge which gets very hot since you shuttle has IGP Integrated Graphics Processor even if you use AGP graphics. If you overclocking you definately need to cool the NB and not only will you prolong the system life but you'll also get a better overclock. I suggest you replace it ASAP either with another fan check sudhian for alternative solutions or you can replace it with a heatsink but if you do you will need a large one the Zalman ZM-NB47J is often recommended but you definately need to fix that.Originally Posted by Jamie Sherman
As for a case fan I use a Noiseblocker S4 which has 44 cfm @ 20db which is one of the best out there available from ultim8pc, the fan you have does 34 cfm @ 30db. Remember decibels db is logarithmic.
ok thanks i really need a nb fan then quick!!
The fan is there for a reason, and Shuttle from experience only ever provide what is just adequate and leave little room for overhead.
can you point me to a cheap one? i'm skint!!! i'm just joining the sudhian forums now!! how do you say that word???
For a cheap nb fan check out ultim8pc.co.uk offerings or a site called whispertec (he does very cheap shipping).
If you want the heatsink i think maplin sell them so can avoid the shipping.
As for Sudhian, i've never needed to say it. But in my head
sud - he - un
guess dialect has some effect to!

thank you for all your help mate, its good to have peeps like you about! now i live near a maplin's so would suggest i get a heatsink or will the fan do me a better job?
I'm not sure which is better since I don't have a SN41G yet!
My 45G uses a small heatsink but it doesn't have IGP so it doesn't get hot so I use the stock HS.
I'd do a search on SN41G Heatsink on the Sudhian forum and you'll definately find a definitive answer. Also you may need to check on the Sudhian forum whether the Zalman can be attached directly to the NB mounting socket or whether some form of adaption/mod may be required IIRC it does go straight on with no modding. If you opt for HS, the Zalman is the best out there and depending on how packed your case is you may have to shorten the fins slightly with a file.
Most importantly on a heatsink use some good thermal paste AS5 artic silver 5.
ok which is the one i need from maplin, is it a 40mm one?
yes i guess i should get one as well, anyone wanna link to the maplin site i'm lost!
If you are talking heatsink its a ZM-NB47J
If you are looking for fans I wouldn't use maplin since most of their fans are that great they're just average. As for a fan I cant access ultim8pc or sudhian until i get home so cannot currently advise but i think something from noiseblocker, adda or maybe akasa spg?
ok thanks mate i will look on the ultim8pc site in a min, if you get a chance will you pick me and bobby i guess a good one out?
