That's it. My second SN41G2 has just killed a second graphics card. Great.
My first one decided it was going to kill my 9700 pro which went all funny and started artifacting like something rotten.
I then ended up with another SN41G2 (cos I liked the case mods) and a 9800 pro. Now less than a month later the new 9800 pro has done EXACTLY the same thing and I can only put it down to my Shuttle being too hot.
Bah, back to the world of big heavy monsters I guess.

I ran a 9700 pro in a SN41G2 for more than 6 months without any issues. I'm sure there are plenty of other people with the same experience.
The only time I've seen someone kill a GFX which didn't involve modding or overclocking was caused by too much voltage to the AGP slot.

No I don't but both times the cards crapped out whilst playing games. The 9700 pro whilst playing UT2003 started going mad. It was on and off after that. Now a while later it seems to be ok in my dad's PC but the 9800 is well and truly fubar'd. It won't display anything in windows now although BIOS is not quite as bad. That was whilst playing UT2003.
Maybe it's because I've got a PCI card in and there's not enough air circulation but I have a fan blowing cool air in on the top and a noiseblocker S3 at full whack on the rear so it should be okay.
Either way, I can't face sending more money up in flames :(
I can understand. I wouldn't want to risk it either but don't write all Shuttles off. I originally bought my SN41G2 as a test box and this was my main rig.....

I was so happy with my Shuttle that it became my main rig and wy Borg cube was stripped down and sold.
I've never looked back since.
My FX5600 died in my shuttle while playing a game... i just thought it was bad luck!
Wonder if something is getting too hot?? Maybe not the GPU but another component, only other likey candidate is something power based, maybe spikes or sommit.
Seems like some bad luck.
btw, do you have the Silent X PSU?
having a PCI card in there as well can't help. I've had my shuttle for 18 months now and i've pretty much always had a decent graphics card in it. without a single issue with them.

yeah i think there would have been more said if this was an issue with 'shuttles'
i never recommend putting a Radeon 9800 in a shuttle as i think not only are the PSU's a little under rated but the heat it'll pump out would be enough for a small room heater!
I love it when i hear about people putting a XP 3200, 1 GB RAM, 200Gb maxtor drive with a radeon 9800 Pro and wonder why it gets hot and crashes. hmmmm....
and what really takes the cake is when they blame the company who they bought it off and not shuttle (or any other SSF maker).

You can't say that the 240W SilentX PSU is under rated powering all that!
You find me another 240W PSU that can do that. I'd be suprised if you can.

Peak temp is around 55C and the GFX card hasn't got past 68C.
I'm not the only person who runs high end kit in a shuttle without problems.
Huddy has the A64 shuttle also with a 6800 GT.

Heat isn't an issue. A max temp of 55c is very respectable. David has posted in the past that he has had no issues with heat either.
Ah well, maybe some people have their Shuttles in very cold rooms?
Either way, I touched the heatsink on my 9800 pro after hardly any gaming and it was literally burning hot. Too hot to kep your finger there, so was the ram. That's some serious heat. I had a blow hole on the top, a noiseblocker S3 at full whack at the rear and a SilentX PSU. Without the case on it's about 15C cooler all round than it was with it on.
Shame it looks pig ugly like that though :(
I used to sing the praises of Shuttles and I do think they're extremely well made. Maybe not for gaming though.
The room can get up to 26c with help from my house mates two PCs :D
Usually around low 20s.
its not just the heat in the case it's the heat of the conponets, that can be dangerious, the ram and the gcard, just don't have room to breathe
The components inside the case are what heat the case up. My case is always sub 40C. Considering I have a CPU that is up to 55C, a GFX up to almost 70c and the HD must be around 60C then the other compnents that don't have thermal monitors can't be getting that hot.
Virtually all computer components can operate at temps way beyond what they get run at in this country (remember the same kit has to run in countries like Saudi where the ambient room temp is a lot higher than the UK).
Depends what layout the SFF uses, my Soltek has the AGP on the outer edge with a grill punched into the panel so the GPU gets air directly from outside the case, it also has a huge system fan as well as the PSU fan. Writing off all SFFs becuase a single make and model is a little extreme, but I can see where you are coming from. Then again I have a passively cooled 9600XT in mine, but I use speedfan to manage my case and CPU fan speeds.
