Please suggest a good CPU water cooler

I have an Intel Core i7 2700K (8 core) overclocked to 4.2 Ghz. I currently have an air cooler - Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2. I can't go beyond 4.2 Ghz at the moment otherwise my CPU will get too hot (above 68 celcius).

Can anyone suggest a good CPU water cooler so I can overclock to at least 5 Ghz? I don't care how much it costs. How noisy will it be compared to an air cooler fan?

Well im currently using an H100 liquid cooler, and i have mine OC'd to 4.8 Ghz and i get 30c at idle and it does not go above 55c when gaming so in my opinion i would go for that

You can get a kit for £125

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=1532&subcat=

Or something like the Corsair H60/H100 or Antec Kuhler H20 620/920

Thanks. How noisy is it when you overclock to 4.8 Ghz? Should I get different fans for it instead of the stock fans?

Corsair H100i with SP120 Quiet edition fans. IF you case can fit 4 fans, 2 above and 2 below the radiator go for Push/Pull. Solid fans and very quiet whilst moving a decent amount of air. Alternative if you cannot fit a H100i in your case go for the Corsair H80i. Smaller Radiator but thicker and use Push/Pull again only you would use 2 fans instead of 4

The stock fans do have a bit noise, but tbh i hardly notice. If you want it to be silent as possible then yes get better fans but for me im not that really bothered

Much appreciated thanks. I think I'll go with your suggestion and get the quiet fans. So should I just get 4 of the quiet edition fans? Is there any particular direction the fans are supposed to be facing when attached to the radiator (for push-pull) or does it not matter?

I don't know if you can help with this thread or not as I'm not sure if my Shinobi XL case will support a 240mm radiator?

You do realise,4.8GHZ to 5GHZ is on the high end of a SB overclock?? I did mention this to you before, especially about later SB batches not necessarily being as good overclockers as earlier ones. Overclocking is not guaranteed, and is variable even between batches, and you really need to be careful with how much voltage you are pushing through the chips too.

5GHZ to 5.2GHZ is about the most I have ever seen, and even then stability is unknown on that level of overclocking,ie,it could be just for benching and it is rare. I have even seen Phenom II CPUs at 4.4GHZ,but even that was rare.

I usually make sure any overclocks I do can pass 12 hours of stability testing with a few different test programmes.

The only CPU i know can reach the 5GHz mark with out too much fuss is the amd fx line of processors. I have had my fx8150 stable at 5.2GHz with temps not exceeding 60c with an ambient temp of 23C on an h100i (using 2 stock fans). The Intel cpu lineup run very hot in comparison so I'm not sure the 5GHz mark would be achievable on an i7 unless you are looking at ln2 (impractical) or TEC cooling which is a serious undertaking get the h100i by all means, it is a fantastic all in one liquid cooler, but don't expect it to suddenly make you able to push your processor significantly further.

If you're not in a rush, you could wait for the Corsair H110, NZXT Kraken x60 and the Swiftech H220 to come out. They are all meant to be really good closed loop AIO liquid coolers. Personally I'm waiting for the H220 which should be coming out towards the end of February if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Please suggest a good CPU water cooler

I managed to get to 4.8 Ghz on air but is wasn't stable because I think it was far too hot at over 80 celcious. I researched before buying and I believe that the 2700K can get to 5GHz on water and be stable.

My case supports a 360mm radiator on top so does that mean that it also supports a 240mm radiator because that's the size of the radiator that comes with the H100i?
