why not back them up to an external hard disk, which wont take up as much space and would be longer lasting.

they will all be backed up by several hard drives as my collection grows im hopeing the capaciry of drives gets a good bit bigger each time i fill one so i can keep old stuff on old drive and have new stuff and old stuff on a newer drive

then every 4 gb or so of new data i will put onto a dvd and bung it in the archive
plus it will be up in the loft or something and hard drives fail (power surges / cuts)

cd's and dvds if burned ok and u test them then there should be no reason for them to bad for years if they are never touched again

    How old are they ?
The dye doesnt last forever, and does degrade over time, but it shouldnt be a quick affair.
Do you know what Dye the disks use ?
