SFF means Small form factor ... shuttles just happen to be more popular (like in general hardware - how many Cray machines do you see being talked about )

    G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
    MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD

    Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
    B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512

What is a cray machine? I was browsing thru newegg.com. I wanted to buy a sff for surfing. Initially I was looking at sk41g but then someone mentioned biostar. I sort of like 210v too. I am just trying to figure out why 200n is more expensive than 210v.

Hehe, the reason most of us talk about shuttles is that they pretty much own the SFF market, I'm definitely of that opinion that shuttle are the original and the best.

The only other SFF machine i've seen that i like the look of was the dual opteron I-Will system, looked pure class

I'm not familiar with the Biostar range so i'm afraid I can't comment.

Thanks. I am just interested in a surfing station but I may expand it to burn dvd later on. Is the sk41g good enough? I don't get into overclocking and I don't know how anyway. So which processor is good for sk41g. It seems it is limited to fsb266. So 2600+ may be overkilled. I am just shopping for parts whenever they have a sale. I will probably end up getting a DDR 3200 even if it will be overkilled for most system.

PS I may end up buying an AIW card anyway. So the onboard video really doesn't matter.

Yes the SK41G is good enough, but if you are buying a AIW card, you should get the SN45G as it will work out cheaper and give better performance (400FSB).

I heard the sn41g has a decent video card. If I go with sn41g, I probably just get a TV card.

The sn41g doesn't have onboard graphics, if you want to have onboard graphics then you will need the sn41G2

I guess I am talking about sn41g2. That is the only one I know. I didn't know they have another sn41g??

Soltek make a good setup and it is now supplied with a 300 watt psu which should resolve any power issues. The 3801 with Amd 64 M/board room for 2 H/d and 2 cd roms so should also suit power user

Soltek shmoltek... just try to get an RMA on one. And, if e's got a real need for 64-bit, check out ebuyer.com for a low price on the SN85G4.

newbie_sff was asking for advice not a biased opinion and as for shuttles there are a few British retailers that wont stock them for the reason you gave

Of course you'll now find distributed networks performing as well or better these days.

As for SFF boxes, don't forget brands such as Cubix and even MSI have introduced one.

    Shuttle's still rule
