    Unhealthy temperature?

My CPU seems to be running at about 64c all the time and while playing games goes up to about 66-68c and system temp is always 30-36c

i know the cpu can take about 90c before it dies, but i was wondering weather mid 60s is healthy for the computer?

the cpu fan is at 4000rpm (can this go higher? maybe 5000)

i've also got three 80mm case fans and one 120mm, 2 are intake air and 2 take it out. the one at the back (120mm) is blowing in, i was wondering weather that should be taking air out aswell for better airflow.

    thanks for any help

EDIT : oh and everything is at stock speeds

What kind of case do you have? I'd expect the temperatures to be a lower than that with all the cooling you've got in there, more like 40-50c for the CPU. 30c is about average for case temps, especially with the gear that you have, so like mr anderson says, I'd check your heatsink/compound.

It's not going to kill the CPU, but it would be better if they were a little lower.

Have you recently built the system?

That temp seems way too high for idle at stock speeds. Funnily enough you don't list what cooling you have on the CPU (heatsink, so i'm presuming it came with the CPU?), but anyway what i'd do is buy some AS5 and apply a nice paper thin layer onto the CPU then re-seat the heatsink. Preferably, buy a new Thermalright copper heatsink while you're at it, you can pick them up pretty cheap nowadays.

built the system about 2 weeks ago, and the cpu cooler is the standard cooler that comes with the processor. also its connected correctly as i check a few days ago.

the case i have it I-Cute 0314TL, its pretty big, i might try improving the air flow, i have a feeling it could be taking out warm air better. but tbh i duno y its 60 odd C when idle

the thermal paste stuff is only about 2 weeks old so i would think its doing its job correctly, maybe im wrong

What kind of thermal compound did you use on the heatsink?

A stock heatsink should still run the CPU cooler than that. That said, have you considered paying a little more for something a bit better (if you're bothered about temps)?

When you say connected properly, do you mean connected to the mobo properly, or seated on the processor properly? It's probably worth taking off the heatsink and reseating it, just to be sure. It's a pain I know

I'd do what you suggested and change the 120mm fan so it's blowing out of the case as well.

You shouldnt have to spend a fortune on a new heatsink, £15-20 should get you something decent. As I said, there's no reason why your stock cooler shouldnt do the job. But sometimes when you have a problem, you can fix it, or you can be lazy and just buy some new hardware

Well, I had a copper heatsink before....cant remember the brand but it was only £15, and it was ace. It kept the CPU at about 40-42c. Should be fine.

The main thing is that it's stable.

Edit: Yeah, these look fine: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...right_120.html

    Not too expensive either

yeh i noticed them, the one at the top looks nice cud you recommend a good fan to go with it tho? because thats just the stand alone heatskin.

moving the fans around a bit i managed to get System temp to 28c and the cpu to 61c

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...S_Tech_60.html

    YS-Tech FD9325 92mm Fan - 3 pin (FG-009-YS)
The high output YS-TECH FD9325 92mm fan produces a massive 50CFM airflow. This makes it ideal for case cooling applications and is fitted with a 3-pin speed sensing connector. Also suitable for use with the Thermalright SLK-900 heatsink.

    - Speed - 2400RPM
    - Output - 50.0CFM
    - Decibels - 31.9dBA
    - Dimensions - 92x92x25

    Price: £4.95 (£5.82 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Seeing as you've spent that much money srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy on a new computer, doesn't it make sense that you spend a measly £25 extra to make sure it is cooled correctly? A computer is only as good as its weakest component, if there's a weak link it will soon become apparent. It pays to make sure its all up to scratch.

And it also essential you buy a good thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/cgi-bi...aAC_2d000_2dAC

A good CPU heat sync & fan is your best bet. I had a good 4 hour Doom 3 season last night and when I exited to Windows I checked the case and CPU temp. The system was at a massive, 45c and I tought the CPU would be atleast 60-65, but it was only 56c.

I find the Zalman 7000b to be a very impressive cpu cooler when it comes to keping the temp down!

Does it actually crash? If not then whats the point, that temperature isn't damaging to the CPU!

Also - what motherboard do you have, some read the ondie sensor rather than the one mounted inside the socket ... which means you end up getting a much higher reading - My old MSI K7N2G-ILSR did that.
