Mouse refurbishment

Hi Alll,

I've got an optical mouse that I've had for nearly 4 years now, and it's still working like the day I bought it with one minor issue, (oh it's a Microsoft intellimouse explorer btw)

The four grey pads on the bottom have worn so flat that the mouse no longer rests on them, and is now sliding around on the hard plastic around them, this is a bit crappy, the mouse feels weird ocaasionally, and is picking up more dirt than it used to.

Is there any way I can replace the pads, or stick on something else that will do the same job (raise the mouse a little and reduce the friction).

I use it straight onto my desk which has a wooden grain in the veneer, seems to work fine so I've not bothered with a mmousemat.

Icemat do some padsurfacers - teflon pads. Could be what you need www.icemat.com

Thanks for that Zed, I also found a review on Hexus that I vaguely remembered for corepad who do 'skatez', bit of googling and I've found that everglide also them, and all three (evrglide, corepad and icemat) look identical from the pictures.

Are they just slicing up a roll of teflon sticky tape and selling it on at a huge profit? Five quid delivered seems a little steep but I suppose it's better than a new mouse.

I think the stuff you need is "frag tape."

If you have double sided stick tape then just stick it to the bottom of your mouse pads. Leaving the teflon paper on one side of course . It works well but with hard mouse mats like the ratpad which i have, wears down quite quickly

Hmmm in that case maybe look at maplins or RS components or something similar. They may have teflon for sale on the cheap? No idea though...

Opera works nicely with it

PCW component center has teflon pads, just go there and click on the BFG logo and they are the second or third item....

I need some too for my MX700, but first its going to be moulded and resprayed

These look right and are cheaper but they're out of stock

I've had a good root about in www.rs.com and can't really find teflon tape, it might be in there but with a weird name, tried google too but it's difficult to know what you're looking for.

I could order international but I don't have a paypal account (paypal is evil). I thought of looking through the european distributors 'cos they might take maestro (switch's new european thing?) but my danish, german, and norwegean language skills turned out to be a little rusty. Hence I'm gonna beg...

Anyone out there have a paypal account willing to order some of these for me? Price is Euro 6.50 + 1 Euro p&p, according to XE.com that should add up to £5.04 although I gather that paypal's exchange rates can be a little..umm..creative. Hooray, I emailed the blokey at hyperglide.net and had a bit of a moan about the fact he doesn't have a UK retailer, in response to which he pointed out that he wasn't delighted about it himself, and could I suggest a few tech and modding web shops he ought to approach. I did this and as a thank you he's offered to send me a packet of skates for free! What a nice bloke.

He might also be sending a few samples to places like hexus to try and get some reviews and publicity, hope he does well.
