    ram! holding...me....back

    ok guys heres the sitch,

got only one 512 stick of 2700 ram in my pc, in an nforce ver 2 mobo,

someone told me that thsi ram might hold me back a little, is it worth getting another exact same stickof this 2700 mand dual channeling it, or selling it and gettign two 512 sticks of 3200? and dual channeling them,

will the extra 0.5gb/s data flow increase my overclock?

is it worht it really of will two 2700 sticks still let me acheive my 2.3ghz target overclock of my 1700+ JUIHB?

    thanks guys

Faster RAM will only help if you overclock your CPU as well.

PC3200 runs at 200mhz, and the CPU FSB and the RAM have to run at sync (well, they don't have to, but it's best) - this means that you can run your CPU FSB at 200mhz as well, whereas with the PC2700 you have now, you are only guaranteed 166mhz with the RAM, potentially limiting the overclock with your CPU. Remember, CPU speed is FSB*multiplier, and a higher FSB is better than a higher multiplier at the same clock speed, so you want your FSB as high as possible.

If I were you, I'd get 2x512 sticks of PC3200, as it should let you overclock more. Corsair Value Select from Komplett seems alright - low price, decent brand and CAS2.5.

You'll probably find that you can overclock more on one stick. I was using one stick of corsair on an NF7S and found that after I got the second stick and ran it dual channel I couldn't clock as high. It had almost no effect on benching in 3d2k1 either, although running 1gb of ram was definitely better from a real world perspective.

That's the one I'd recommend if you want cheap, but still decent RAM. Of course, you spend more money to get Corsair XMS/Crucial Ballistix or another expensive brand, but I don't the performance increase is enough to warrant another £70 or so.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
