Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
Considering that low end Core i5 CPUs are now cheaper than they used to be,it just shows you what happens when enthusiasts overhype CPUs.
Give it another year and Core i5 K series CPU prices might hit £200 at least.

Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
More interesting to me, is that the 3770k (which is I7 not 5 btw) has gone up almost £20 since I got mine last May when it cost £245
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
AMD are for n00bs and intel is for the pr0 g4m3rzzz tho!
Remember it doesn't just end there. Look at what you get in the respected motherboards for the cost aswell. I would say these boards are about equivalent given their suffix or series identifier:
Low end MSI:

Midrange Gigabyte

High end Asus:

If anything the AMD board is actually better if you look at the I/O and consider that you dont have the same PCI-E lane restriction with 9*0 series and FX CPU. I suppose you do get the I/O for the GPU on the Z series board, but if you are running onboard graphics are you likely to be buying a Z77 board and overclocking?
FX Series are much better value for money at the moment, its just the shame that there are limited ITX and uATX options.
Edit: Also dont forget that the default intel cooler clip is utter utter bollocks, and the AMD clip is still very effective. Not particularly relevant but i like to rant.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
Well, the list prices for Z77/Z68 chipsets are really high too (over $50) which all adds up. Anyway while the UKP<>USD rate has changed I think there's some retailer/distributor profiteering going on too.
But at least i5K/i7K are pretty much as fast as you can get so there is the halo effect. Far poorer value are the i3's. 2 core + HT seems to be performing rather poorly in new games for instance and that's a trend which is likely to continue. So unless Intel start offering true quads at a decent price again (cheapest atm is £130+ while the Q8200 was what? £90 three+ years ago) their CPUs will not make sense for gaming except at the high-end. All of which makes PC gaming expensive: £230+ for the CPU+Mobo plus an expensive GPU.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
The same thing happened with the Q6600. I bought mine for £90, but for months afterwards you couldn't pick one up for less than £120, sometimes peaking at £150!
As a general rule, if I'm flush I'll probably buy an Intel based machine, but more often than not end up with AMD since at the end of the day, I don't really notice the performance difference.
And yes, the AMD Mobos generally tend to be more feature rich than Intel for the money.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
I've noticed that Aria have had the i5 3570K regularly on their "Super Specials" for £161 although it jumped to £167 on Monday.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
I was also wondering why the 2500k's were selling second hand in the £130 mark as they too are on Amazon for £167. Cross fingers I get good money for mine on ebay :)
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
They should be dropping not increasing!!
AMD have also increased
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
Higher demand always pushes the prices up. Happy me paid a month ago £162.99 for a retail i5-3570k :)
Maybe Intel is squeezing the last quids out of the Ivy Bridge before Haswell? I seen new motherboards with new Haswell-class-chipsets from ASRock and Biostar at CeBIT (well pictures from CeBIT but you know what I mean) First ASRock Socket LGA1150 and BIOSTAR Unveils a Trio of Socket LGA1150 Motherboards.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
Cheapest seems to be Amazon at the moment at £171.14 but even that seems to have jumped up almost overnight.
Increases seem to have been passed on immediately - can't see that all retailers restocked at the same time.

The prices have been ambling up,and it started around the time the FX8150 was launched.
Looking at my build guide prices from September 2011:
http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/s...tember2011.png
Prices were between £160 to £167 for a K series Core i5,ie,about £164 on average.
Prices went up to between £175 to £180 by the end of last year, and that is with the Pound-Dollar exchange rate having stayed reasonably flat.
So in a year and 4 months the prices went up by around £12 to £15.
Also, late last year the Core i5 3350P and cheaper Core i5 CPUs were launched at between £130 to £140,so the cheapest Core i5 CPUs were actually cheaper than before.
The S series and T series low wattage Core i5 CPUs are cheaper than they used to be two years ago.
The Pentium dual cores and Celeron dual cores also became cheaper or the prices have stayed stable.
Edit!!
The Core i7 3820 price has remained stable since its launch, and has in fact decreased.
The Core i7 3930K price has also remained stable too.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
There are rumours that Intel are using anti competitive tactics against AMD again, so perhaps they are planning ahead and are saving up (by gouging their customers) for the inevitable $2B payout in a few years when they are dragged into the courts again ;)
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
*shrugs* maybe just supply/demand then.

The only problem is that Intel are canny. They reached an out of court settlement so the whole process would have to start again unlike with Microsoft. If they had reached a settlement with the EC or another regulatory body, breaches would attract pretty swift (for courts etc.) fines almost automatically.
Re: Has anyone looked at the price of the retail Core i5 3570K recently??
I paid £166 for my i5-3570k from Amazon in December. If Bonebreaker paid £163 a month ago and it's £171 now it sounds mostly like currency fluctuations to me.
