Laptop Athlon help?

Hi, I stupidly managed to fry the Athlon xp 2200 in my laptop. Can this be replaced with any athlon xp (obviously within the mobo limits) or are laptop cpu's differnt? It appears to be the same, but need a little advise please?

sell mobile processors, you could get any you wanted, XP2400Ms, etc would slot right in ( i think) can be had for about 50 notes

probably the best - i would recommend the XP2500, but it might not be supported by your laptop, as instead of 133bus, on the thrubreds, its a barton and needs 166, so might not work with your chipset/ram

installed a new dvd drive, didnt put the heat sink back on properly

Anywhere I can just buy one? Like as in a shop? Very urgent, company laptop computer, need it up and running to complete my work... I live in the west midlands area...

i doubt they'd do mobile procs, and if they did, they be stupidly expensive

unless u need it totally urgent, then id say cpu city if you ordered tomorrow morin, hopefully you could get it for wednesday

That is the spec of my Laptop- Can anyone confirm that the processors sold on cpucity will infact be compatible like i suspect they will?

well some are and some arnt

make sure the one u buy is actually a mobile CPU - e.g. XPxxxx-M, as they sell normal CPUs as well as mobile ones, if you got a normal one im not sure what would happen, it would probably overheat in there


as far as i know the M, mobile chip are exactly the same chips that are used in laptops, there only sold on there as they run at low heat and overclock well when you put a proper heatsink/fan on them

Oh i know that, what I mean was, are the mobile CPUs (all TWO of them) that they have on that site, compatible with my machine?

not sure mate, as i dont know what your machine is, but i dont see why there should be a problem with the XP2400, as it runs exactly the same as the XP2200, just a slightly higher clock, as there both 133bus cpus, see if anyone else can reply to confirm, but i think so
