My AMD 2500+ has just been picked up as a 3200+ in windows after an overclock?

My AMD 2500+ has just been picked up as a 3200+ in windows after an overclock?

I was playing around with the FSB on my SN41G2 shuttle and after changing to these settings my pc booted up and windows shows the below info

My bios stuff that changed was

    System Performance – Expert
    FSB Frequency - 195
    CPU Interface – Aggressive
    Memory Frequency – [sync]
    Memory Timing – Optimal

I have a AMD 2500+ chip with AQXEA codes, which I brought second hand, I have 512 of ddr2700 ram…

    Is this all correct?

FSB should be 200 for XP3200, maybe its close enuf to make windows think it is a 3200...

Mine just always comes up with unknown CPU type all the time, even at standard XP clocks like 11x166MHz or 11x200MHz.

i'm well pleased!! i might try for 200 again, but i don't see the point as it's 100% stable at 195 and was not at 200, so i'm happy for the mo, my idle cpu is 46 and system temps are 37 - not bad for a shuttle

My CPU does that also. A Barton 2500+ running at or near the speed of a 3200+ would make the CPU's identical, so it's not somthing abnormal.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

if your lucky like me you'll be able to get at least 2.2 Ghz out of that processor. I've got mine running @ 400 Mhz with the multiplier @ 11 = 2.2 Ghz. I had to increase the vcore just a fraction and with low latency memory its a flier

The best clock I've had on this 2500+ was 2300 Mhz but after a while it seemed a little flakey so back to 2.2 Ghz it is

thats impressive tho - because hes using pc2700 ram, it would be probably a poor overclock with pc3200

but 166 mhz @ 195 is brilliant top work

The shuttle psu's are rather hardy. Look at what i am doing to mine in my sig! And my 250w psu silent thing is still sat in its box.

Overclock till it fails then back it off a little, no point having good hardware and not using it to its full potential, btw my nf7s used to report things like that (xp3200 chip), bios update sorted it.

Allen, the reason your processor reports as "Unknown CPU Typ" both at boot-up and in Windows is because it's a mobile part, a modified bios will be required for it to display correctly.
