Shame the Gigabit is still running on the PCI bus, but I guess with an 8237 they can't do much else. Otherwise it looks pretty top TBH- I want one:).

I assume you mean its on the PCI-Express bus? Or a standard 32 bit PCI bus? The former shouldnt be too bad, the latter is a stupid idea :)

No, it's the latter. Since the 8237 Southbridge has no onboard GbE, there's not much can be done except stringing it off the PCI bus- although I guess there's no reason not to use the PCI-E bus which presumably comes off the Northbridge; perhaps it's too much of a design challenge or suitable chips aren't available yet?
Quite why the K8T890 doesn't have onboard GbE in the Northbridge like the new NForce chipsets I don't know (or maybe it has and Abit didn't make use of it to simplify the design?).
Why I care, I'm not sure- I have precisely no need of gigabit speeds, I don't even have a network at the moment:rolleyes:;).

:mad: :mad: Looks like another Abit POS to me. At least it doesn't have an AGP slot. I can't think of a single reason to buy that board. It will not be any faster than the other boards even if they come out with fast VC's in PCI-E because the board is still saddled with the limitations of PCI.
Um yeah, because gigabit throughput is a make or break feature for so many people isn't it?:rolleyes: What else is 'saddled with the limitations of PCI'?Quote:
