It's Bargain Sound Card time

Was ordering some stuff, so thought I'd go for the old "Zakky Bargain" again.

ie: try something too cheap for it to work, but with my fingers crossed. Wel this time its my ears thaty are crossed, cos its Bargain Sound Card time.

Its a 6 channel, C-Media chip, doesnt look ANYTHING like that piccy...its a smaller L shaped card, but has a nice little box, with a groovy space ship on it, and a CD with drivers.

And for £4.11 inc VAT, I expect the WORLD of it ;)

In all seriousness, tnight I shal whack it in the old SFF pc, install the drivers and report back.

The 6 channel doesnt interest me particulary, but the HTRF in headphone mode does. Thats when we'll see.

Any of you guys had a go with one of these?

Yep - ran that exact card for a year, grabbed it because my on-board sound was tosh.

If I remember the 8738 chipset does *not* work with XP. As you use generic CMedia drivers for all these kind of cards.

its working fine. XP drivers on disk , although old. No new ones on the website. Cack web site too...sloooowwwww :( but the driver disk had it all anyway :)

Plus some other cool stuff, including WinDVD and good surround sound demos.

Anyone with a cack old soundcard really cant go far wrong.

Well, Microphone input is good, stereo is suprisingly good, and it has a rather natty surround option of having SPEAKERS for the front and your headphones for the rear. Sounded pretty good as it goes.

Supports EAX 1 and A3D and does a reasonable amount of "ear-hole trickery" on headphones (HTRF)

HOWWWEEVER......;) the EAX got a bit carried away in IL-2 (a game with a hundred sound card problems anyway), but was acceptable. Just got echoiey....

For £4....it sounds like £20 card :)
