    Exclamation £450 Budget Pre-built

Hey there, my laptop's been slowly dying for a good few months now and so I'm looking at a new desktop build. I'll mainly be using the computer for business tasks such as creating websites, light coding and the like but am also interested in light gaming.

Have heard good things about Scan, Novatech, Chillblast and Overclockers and am looking at either purchasing one of their pre-built systems or making my own over at PC Specialist. Am unsure what I'm looking at in terms of the best system for what I want and in terms of value so if you kind folks could help a noobie out it'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

hmm £450 is a bit low .. so think amd for bang for buck .. what are you going to use it for ?
What does it matter now if men believe or no?
What is to come will come. And soon you too will stand aside,
To murmur in pity that my words were true

    Re: £450 Budget Pre-built

Going prebuilt limits the amount of power you can get for your money since you always pay a premium for that service.

That said, it's worth checking out DinoPC, since they offer pretty good value for money in my experience. Their "Gallant AMD4130" for example (though I'm not a fan of AMD processors!)

The best option is to watch some videos to familiarise yourself with the build process and order the parts from Scan to get much more performance for your money!

    Re: £450 Budget Pre-built

The thing is the PSUs with a lot of prebuilt ones are not always great and have unbranded PSUs. They basically use the cheapo £20 case and PSU combinations.

They can come with older chipset motherboards. For example H61 for the Intel ones and 760G ones for the AMD ones. They are probably no better than what Dell and Medion use as they are under £40 motherboards. They are no better than Dells and in a number of cases, are probably worse IMHO.

The second tier they do after ultra cheap, are the systems with a branded PSU.

A number advertised as having Corsair PSUs have the VS series:

    http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...ries-psus.html

These are basically very similar to cheapo Chieftec PSUs with the same selection of horrendous capacitors. The OEM FSP PSUs use better capacitors.

    Edit!!

There is this system for £289.99:

    http://forums.hexus.net/current-barg...delivered.html

It comes with an OS and has an FSP 450W PSU.

That would give you some money to plonk in a better card at some point.

    Second Edit!!

The PSU is an FSP FSP450-60EMDN.

It seems to have 20A and 18A on on its 12V lines:

    http://images.esellerpro.com/2131/I/770/64/DSCF3691.JPG

In terms of parts its not too bad.

However, with the OP needing an OS and PC that runs games, they are looking at PCs with cheapo motherboards and PSUs ATM,if they want to have a graphics card in the build.

I will have a look around to see if I can see a better prebuilt - can the OP increase their budget any more??

    Third Edit!!

The parts come from Ebuyer. If you shop around you might get or two bits cheaper too.

The PSU is made by Seasonic, and the case can take longer cards and has plenty of room for expansion too.

You should also get around £6 cashback too:
