Is there a way to test the IDE channels on my mobo?
This problem is starting to get me really down.
I think my shuttle mobo is dying.

I've used HDtach and Sisoft Sandra to test throughput - helped me once when I had the cable in upside down (system worked fine, but with vastly reduced throughput). Might want to give them a whirl. I'd look at cabling first, before blaming the mobo. If the mobo and/or ide chipset is duff, you'd have some pretty seriuos symptoms - what exactly are you experiencing?
Nomadd
crashing in games, garbled HDD auto detection, crashing on desktop.
Failed boot maybe 1/3 times
Latest BIOS and chipset drivers? Clean Windows install? Graphics/Sound drivers? Your symptoms don't sound like a major hardware error - i.e. mobo, which would more than likely cause complete system failures, auto-reboots, etc. Your symptoms sound much more likely software/firmware/configuration related (or a loose/damaged cable.) I'd eliminate all of those before ditching the mobo.Quote:

Clean HDD, clean XP install, Knoppix has the same symptoms of not detecting the HDD, All latest BIOS and drivers. Tried different cables.
