Moving Bitlocker E-drive to new motherboard query.

So I don't fully understand this whole TPM thing, What I do know if I can't move an image to my evo drive and expect it to work using the drives own encryption, the only way it worked was to install windows 8 from fresh and them activate bitlocker, it rebooted and that was it, encrypted, not 1-100% it was done, e-drive style.

The trouble is dell are pissing me off, I am on system number 2 for my XPS 9530 and Dell told me they won't build me a 3rd one, they want to refund me and make me order another as too much time has passed ( 3 months now) trying to resolve the issues. Fair enough, I will get a refund, take my 1tb evo and shove it in a new machine and hope it's 3rd time lucky. Question is how do I get round bitlocker so I can simply stick the drive in and get bitlocker to encrypt without doing it on the software level, does anyone know if I have to do anything 1st apart from the obvious thing of decrypting 1st as that only takes a second with it being on the hardware level?

It's a great setup, AES hardware based bitlocker.

I just want to avoid reinstalling

Can you not just turn bitlocker off on the machine it's encrypted to then move it to the new one and then turn bitlocker on again and go through the process again.

I have yet to use bit locker with hardware encryption myself but I don't see why wouldn't work.

I dunno, that is what I hope will happen, when I did that to a customer's Toshiba in the field it had a TPM tizzy so I fear I am missing something. I have another XPS sat here, identical model, I just don't want to bust bitlocker, I guess it wont and I just need to bust out the T5 driver and find out of the weekend really, Just reaching out the the hexites who do this kinda thing for a living as it's easier than ripping 2 laptops to bits as the XPS isn't just 2 screws and a panel off it's a full bottom off and mSata stashed under a ribbon cable.

It really is a great solution when it's running.

I presume you're aware that your full name (or at least somebody's) is visible in the screenshot, Gonzo? If you're happy, I'm happy, but I thought I'd check in case.

According to MS, if you move it to another computer it will trigger a system recovery. This mean you will need to use a recovery key to unlock it.

not the case if you suspend or unlock the drive 1st, the question is just about being able to set it to use the self encrypting drive feature again m8, even backing up and restoring an image stops this.
