    IDE configuration

    HI

I realise that ATX boards have 2 controllers and you must set the drives to master and slave accordingly. Are there any rules of thumb as to what would happen if ypu had certain set ups in error. Such as both drives on the secondary controller set to slave etc???

    Just curious!!

    Thanks for looking

If you put two drives as slave of any one ide controller.. either one drive will only show, or neither drive will show.I've done it a couple of times myself in while in lazy mode.

Drives tend to be reported as a load of gibberish characters on the POST screen when jumpered incorrectly.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

I once forget to set a Hard Drive as a slave (when it was master before) when I stuck another drive in as a master. The computer just refused to pick up either of the drives.

Yes neither drives are picked up i have also done this a number of times on different pcs.

Its also the same for CD/DVD drives if you for example have them on the same channel set as master neither will show.
