AMD 64 Price Drop 30%?

Im looking at getting Shuttle SN95G5 AMD64 which take the new AMD 64 Chip socket 939, and the cheapest chip is a 3500 @ £239.70.

Have been looking about for cheap prices "as you do " and when looking at THE REGISTER they have got an article saying that there is a big price drop like 30% off

But cant see when this is suppose to come into effect?

Does any one know any think about this?
or
Any good site you know of where i can pick one up under £239.70?

You'll have to wait until the 3000 and 3200 chips come out if you want a cheaper S939 chip. There's no price cut expected until after Christmas now as far as I know. On the plus side, the 3000 and 3200 should be out soon, like the first couple of weeks in October, and they might well be overclockable.

When the 3000 and 3200 come out they will be 90nm....But it looks as though AMD is having the same problems that INTEL are having @ 90nm, so they are not going to be uber-clockers.

If they weren't having problems then their first 90nm chips would be faster than their current 130nm..... where as in fact they will be releasing a 4000+, but it'll be on 130nm tech. Backwards huh?

AMD's pricing strategy at the moment is to mirror Intel's pricing for 'equivalent' products, so a 3400 costs pretty much the same as a P4 3.4E for example. Intel don't have any more price cuts scheduled for this year; they intend to release faster processors but they'll be at a higher price than current ones. AMD have no particular reason to undercut Intel in price since they have a product that is superior in most respects. The only reason they'll cut prices is if they start to build up a glut of inventory.

The 3500+ price drop happened a few months ago, its fell from around £350 to around £250.

Thats how things are done with most stuff. 90nm might be better, but because its new, its more risky. Before using it for the high clocking chips they will want to perfect the yeilds. This usually happens when theres a process change.. doesnt mean they have problems with it...
