I have decided to halt this for the minute as I am definitely considering a single socket G34 for a desktop as it'll give me upgradability in the future it'll fit in my current case, plus it'll stop my urges to overclock continually!

I have my eyes on a Supermicro board that apparently supports non-ECC/unbuffered RAM, so I can reuse just the board and the chip and I am done. My Phenom hits around 140W because I have overclocked it, so want to get this OC obsession down

In all seriousness, as the years go on the current high end opterons will drop and I could snatch them socket F will leave me with no upgrade path.

Sure I do want to just go ahead and get an FX-8320, but really.
