    When I first posted the 3570K was cheaper than the 3570, that is no longer the case.

    If you want to stick with the 3570K then you would need a Z77 MB to overclock and a CPU cooler this will cost extra.
    If you don't plan to overclock and want an i5 I'd get a Haswell 4570 and B85 MB.

    Many thanks for your help mate, I will probably end up giving the overclocking a go one day so I'll stick with the 3570k as the 4570 seems to have negligible benefits.

    I upgrade computers every 5 years or so, so by the time I come to upgrade it the newer Haswell socket will have been long since dead!

    How's this for the MB, cheapest one scan had;

    You'd need a cooler too, I'm thinking of this one for my own build:

    But there are plenty of alternatives, Freezer 13, Argon AR01, etc.

    Re: Gaming PC _ can you spec me?

    If the OP is not overclocking a Xeon E3 1230 V2 would be a good option. It seems the V3 version I mentioned earlier is not available ATM.

    Total price; £540, good as standard, better once I get around to overclocking in the future? Now please God, don't give me any other options! haha

    edit: Ah, if I did plan on doing some o/c in the future, are you saying I'd be better off with the 3570k and NOT the Xeon?

    edit 2; By the look of it if I am happy to proceed with some overclocking I'd be better off sticking with the 3570k. (The Xeon doesn't overclock, but is faster as standard?) I will end up o/c at some point so back to the....

    The Xeon isn't faster as such but it does have hyper threading, which is currently of limited use for gaming.

    There is good news on the RAM front, you can get 1866mhz and save £6 at the same time.

    Prices are so volatile and don't even make sense.

    Re: Gaming PC _ can you spec me?

    If you are overclocking for the sake of around £8.50 get this motherboard:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...b-dvi-d-hdmi-a

    The VRM section is better and it actually has some cooling too.
