Decent 1TB External HDD and Backup solution

Looking to get a 1TB external HDD to be used puely to backup my main data drive. Any suggestions? Dont want to spend a fortune.

Also, what software would you recommend for doing the backups? I want something which will basically just replicate my internal HDD, then backup any changes on a daily basis. So, if my main drive was to fail, I can just stick another one in and restore the whole external drive back to it.

EDIT: The backup solution, forgot to mention, would prefer it if it had versioning, just incase of corrupt files

One of the cheaper 1TB drives out there, and I have good experience with Hitachi reliability, especially on the laptop side.

Software: Create synchronicity, good open source solution which meet your criteria.

edit: Just saw this pop up on HUKD, Novatech 1TB. No idea what drive is actually inside and you go down to USB 2.0 but it really is a rock bottom price at this time.

Re: Decent 1TB External HDD and Backup solution

I like the Western Digital Passport range of usb 3 external drives, for a 1TB drive, the WD My Passport 1TB Portable Hard Drive - Red takes some beating and the price is good too at £63.60 from A amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=1&s=computers). For my backups I use a mixture of Acronis TrueImage for whole drive imaging and Synctoy for just backing up my work directory.

Thanks for the replies. Think I will go for the western digital HDD, looks like exactly what I need. Thanks again.

Re: Decent 1TB External HDD and Backup solution

You can use Microsoft Robocopy command for simple back up for files and data files but if you plan to do whole system backup you can use Windows inbuilt backup for Win 7 or Win 8.

    Windows 8 - Backup:
