Hmmm printer choice

Have been lusting (ooooerr) after an Canon I865 for ages, and have just got a cheap laserjet for text, so now want to replace my HP 959c (+duplex) with a dedicated photo printer. Managed to get a bloke in PCWorld to agree to sell an ex demo I865 to me for £80, turns out the print head, CD tray and some other bits were missing luckily checked the box in store. Started hunting around online and can gee the I865 for £115 delivered, then spotted that the PIXMA iP4000 has hit the shelves.

Specs for the IP4000 are very similar to the I865, think it uses same carts, prints to cd, is a little faster, big plus is the on-board duplex unit. And the price inc delivery is £109
Am on the edge of flexing the plastic as I hope to get quiet a bit back for my old printer on ebay, have at least 5 black and 5 colour cartridges for it.

Sooo anybody seen one of these in the flesh, or tried one?? Has been described as but ugly, then again so have I so could be a marriage made in heaven.

On the whole Canon printers are ugly....but do you want to take it on a date, or do you want great quality prints?

I'll second that - got an i850 and can't fault it, apart from the fact I wish it was an 865.

Canon are definitly best for Inkjet printers great quality and value. HP cost way too much to run and Epson ones are piss poor.

Not sure why you would judge a printer on who it looks, surely its how the prints look that matters?

I have the i865 which is a great printer but for the same price you can now have duplex and two paper sources. Not a difficult decision IMO.

Curse you all, have just flexed the plastic. There goes the back dated pay rise. Just got to flog the old printer now, would probably get the same if I sold the carts on their own.

what are ink prices like?

Uses same inks as previous model so around £8 a cart, but has seperate tanks for each colour and 2 black (1 photo, 1 designed for text). Its also happy to take re-manufactured carts and has a replaceable print head.
