Lightbulb Z77X UP7 CPU and RAM suggestions

I am looking for some suggestions for CPU and RAM for this Mobo,

I already have the mobo thanks to a lucky competition win, however my plans for a new build have come to a grinding halt due to the imminent arrival of my very own Mini Me

So what I am looking for is a decent CPU and RAM to go into this, I tend to use this PC for gaming and watching media via XBMC so I am not too fussed about going for overpriced parts.

The missus has said if I can figure out some nice prices on parts she will but them for me for Christmas (I know it is months away but I can wait)

So I am after your suggestions.

Well if money is an issue then really it has to be a 3570k, I assume that is doable?

Is 8GB enough for RAM? No need to splash out too much, it won't make a huge difference.

Depends, with the new intel haswell cpu's coming out soon prices and availability may well change majorly by xmass

As it stands the i5 3570k for overclocking or the i5 3450 if not overclocking at the price vs performance point
Ram, doesn't really matter that much (faster ram or ram overclocking doesn't really have much effect on the current intel cpu's), 2x4gb of 1600mhz 1.5v is the best price point if I remember correctly.

That RAM certainly looks doable, and since I have 4 slots on Mobo can always chuck another set on to double it 16Gb, and lets face it, gaming rigs do not tend to need more that that.

Was looking at the 3570k as that price is about what I was expecting, but curious to see if there is anything else out these with equal Bang for Buck appeal

If you aren't overclocking I'd look into selling the board. It's really quite a pricey bit of kit.

Was something my Wife tried to get me to do, but I won it in competition then my current PC GFX blew (GT9800) so I upped it to a 650ti and then planned a new build.

Current PC has possible fault with RAM (Windows randonly locks up so reboot needed to fix) and is fairly old now so want to upgrade it anyway, figured may as well just buy the two parts I need (as only got the mobo no CPU) and then switch over to using that instead. Current PC specs are

Case - CoolerMaster CM Stacker 831 Silver Aluminium Case
    Processor (CPU) - Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9400 (2.66GHz) 1333MHz
    Motherboard - ASUS® P5N-D
    Memory (RAM) - 4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz
    Monitor - LG W2452T 24 INCH WIDESCREEN,HDCP/DVI-D/D-SUB 1920x1200
Keyboard - Logitech® G15 Gaming Keyboard with Backlit LCD Display

Might be worth relaxing your memory timings a little to see if that helps.

But if you buy anything below a 3570k you should at least see how you can get for it. I mean that thing is worth £300 and you can get perfectly decent motherboards for under £100.

Well done some Calcs and got just over £200 to spend so looks like I will be trying to get the CPU and RAM suggested above.

Gonna go shop around and see which is best price

Haswell's are just around the corner but it would seem a waste to not use that Z77 board you have.

If you dont want overpriced and would like to keep with the Z77, I would be tempted with the I5 3570k and maybe use a little bit of cash to look into upgrading your graphics card. Obviously depending on what you already have

Got a 650ti that I picked up for just under 200 in January after the GT9800 blew

Its not just Amazon and Google that are routing revenues through a Dublin entity. Plenty of other Uk businesses are doing the same thing. Those are just some of the bigger names that have made the press.

You'll get better customer service from Amazon if there are any issues with the CPU or memory.

Scan have the 3570k on offer Today Only, although it may be better to wait until you get free delivery (20 posts on Hexus - search for details).

the Scan bricks and mortar store is literally 20 mins away from me, sadly I am working so store is shut by the time I leave work

plus with Amazon I have to go to my local post centre to pick it up which can be bit of hassle, got GPU and PSU from Scan with no issues.

This is the one I looked at http://www.scan.co.uk/products/29-4i...art-cache-34x-

If you are that close to them makes sense to use them.

Re: Z77X UP7 CPU and RAM suggestions

    Haswell is pointless

    Socket 1150 when Z77X UP7 is Socket 1155

So looks like standard 3rd Gent 3570K it is
