Is there a chart or something that shows which voltage a CPU should be at a particular speed? I have my Athlon XP 2000+ at 2.4GHz and I'm not really sure what the voltage should be...It's at 1.95V right now

Yeah, I agree, I try not to exceed 1.8 for excessive periods of time..
I have mine at 1.872v, on air. Running at 10.5x240MHz, gives me a clock speed of 2.52GHz.Temps are just over 40 load.
1700 JHUIB @ 1.7v 208 x 12 = 2500mhz :D
Check your temperatures , it the heat that kills processors in the short term and excess voltage that kills them long term.
You have to put your voltage at whatever your overclock runs stable. Its your choice whether you run it like that as it will certainly shorten the life of your chip!
I had my 1700 running at 2V for over 2 years still going strong :P but it will vary from CPU to CPU.
They're not as delicate as you think. Heat of over 70ºC may kill them, and putting like 2.5v would kill it if you couldn't remove the heat quick enough, but running them at around 2v with temps less than 50ºC isn't likely to reduce their lifespans much from the original 10 years they'd last normally...Quote:

I ran a applebred duron with l2 cache enabled with 1.925v overvolted to 1.95v for about a year 24/7 running SETI@home with no loss of overclock.. The temps reached 65c, sold the chip and it apparently still works fine so it didn't do that too much harm.. 2.2v didn't kill a 1700+ off mine that I got to POST at 3ghz with an aero 7 lite either so I think voltage killing chips is overcalled.
If it's ran with 1.85v or less for a year or more with no loss of overclock I reckon an extra .1v is not going to do drastic harm, but there is an element of luck involved so nothing is certain.
You wouldn't have been able to run a 1700+ at 3GHz even with a Prommie or Cascade... are you sure you don't mean 3000+ speeds, i.e. 2.1GHz?Quote:

Being stupid with voltage will also kill them but if they are resonably well cooled, shouldnt be a problem.
Ive had my 1700+ - which currently only does 2.2ghz 1.85v, overcloked to 2.45ghz when at 2.1v. This was on air - slk800 + smartfan2 on fulll (75cfm), which a thermistor load temp going upto 60c.
Note that for any voltages higher than 1.8v on an athlon you typically need to also cool the mosfets or your risking killing your board.

Its not the air that does it, its the breakdown of the internal paths at that voltage regardless of cooling. I think Intel's have this issue too. Hence sudden death.Quote:
