    FAO : Belkin SurgeMaster Owners

    Could some one with same/near model as myself check something for me.

    In the picture at the top of the product, in the middle there are two lights ( under the switch ), a green and a orange.

    The orange lights up and is the earthed, the green is the protected.

    Now should the green be lit up all the time if it's in working condition, as I think the surge might be faulty and we have no green light on.

    Surge protectors do burn out over time. Howstuffworks.com explains... how they work.

    A good surge protector has a light to indicate the state of the surge protection. If the light is out, then that usually means you have no (or not a decent level of) protection.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Its also a very good idea to tie a single loop in the wire. This creates a very small inductance and prevents any large current surges killing equipment, whereas those only protect againts voltage (unless Ive got it the wrong way round!)

    I have a black one which is two years old and the green light is not on anymore. I also have two of the white ones pictured and they are under 6months old and the green light is on on both.

    Usefull to know they will replace it when the light goes out.

    Ive got myself one of their 8-way surge protectors. My only complaint with is seems that the plugs have to be 100% in for them to actually connect (so if you have a big transformer for a network switch or similar they can sometimes disconnect). Other than that, no complaints at all.
