    Gigabyte GA-7NN Pro 2

I recently bought and installed the above mobo, my system is now as follows:

    GA 7NN Pro 2
    Athlon XP 3200+
    80gb maxtor SATA
    512 MB RAM
    ATI Radeon 9000

Firstly, both the board and chip supposedly support 400mhz FSB, however the bios reports the current bus speed as 200mhz and will not let me change it to 400. I changed it to 300 by messin around with some of the bios options and it killed the system!

Also, I get a score of about 6800 in 3d Mark, is this good?

Thirdly, I downloaded the latest nforce2 drivers from the nvidia site and tried to install them. The setup program started but then just died. The system was fine however.

The reason I was mucking about with nvidia drivers was because I was getting an error mesage when trying to run doom 3. The game is an original, no dodgey copy or anything, and it installed perfectly but when I try to run it, it says 'Please insert disc 1' even though disc 1 is in the drive...

I thought it may be because I had clone cd on my machine at the time so I uninstalled that and doom 3 and while I was there, uninstalled the nvidia drivers (as they didn't seem to do anything anyway) I restarted my machine with a view to reinstalling doom 3 and I got the message:

'windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt nvatabus.sys'

I tried the repair utility on win xp cd but go no joy, gonna have to format and reinstall...

Has anyone else had similar problems wth the nvidia drivers? Can anyone tell me more about the FSB speed or the 3d mark score? Any advice appreciated...

For the fsb have a look in your mobo manual , might be some jumpers or something .

    Follow up....

Ok, I fixed the boot issue by downloading nvatabus.sys, chucking it on a floppy and using the repair console to copy it to the drivers foler...

Also, got doom 3 working by reinstalling the nvidia drivers (this time it worked properly) and removing Clone CD from my system.

Part of the nvidia download is some kind of chipset monitoring tool which does report the fsb speed as 398mhz but the bios still says 200...

Please bear in mind that the 400MHz FSB is a DDR speed. So the actual speed is 200MHz, just where it's meant to be. It's just that it uses clock doubling to give you double the data rate. I'm not surprised that jacking it up to 300MHz killed your system; you just tried a 50% FSB overclock, optimistic to say the least...

If the nVidia installer just starts & then quits try running it in 2K compatability.
