What's the Thermal Compound like supplied with the Acrtic Coolers?

I ordered an ATI 1 Silencer earlier, just wondering what the thermal compounds like as i dont have any other stuff

Also i think the thermal comound on my CPU/Heatsink isn't actually stuck to the CPU so would it be ok to use some on there too?

in a word its ****, get yourself some artic silver 5, and put it on both your gpu and your cpu.

fair enough but i'd rather just use the stuff with it, it is fine to put on the CPU though, right?

What can i remove the old stuff on the CPU with?

Its good enough, theres about 5c difference between them. The ACS one is based on sillicone. I use this stuff for anything apart from CPU and gpu ( I have several spare AS3's) becuase its not electrically conductive, which is quite usefull...

If the stuff on cpu is paste, wipe with a dry tissue. Doesnt matter if it isnt 100% removed as it will still do its job. If its a thermal pad you will need to scrape it of and use a solvent to remove the last bits of it. Akasa TIM cleaner is good for this.

Thanks SilentDeath, i think the stuff on the CPU is a pad. Will white spirit be ok?

should be, but its always best to scrape as much of it off first, use the white spirit just to remove any glue that gets left behind.

Thanks again, can anyone confirm that using white spirit will be ok to remove the last bit of thermal pad and it's not going to destroy my processor in some way?
