Ever watch a proc fry?

Well heres a video! Notice the Intel always lives! :p BTW, I'm shure you all saw this... But for the noobs! :p

No its when they start glowing bright red!!!!

(stuff glows red when it hits ~750°c btw)

My dead 9700, one of the chips on the back started glowing red after I messed up a vmod compleatly and tryed to fix it.

A modern AMD wouldn't die either - it would shut down/throttle too.

I much prefer AMD to Intel. But when it comes to thermal management Intel kicks AMD's ass. The worst thing is that AMD didn't always properly warn buyers of the problem. It used to be correct procedure to test a new mobo/CPU without a heatsink before final assembly. I always read documentation, so never suffered as a result, but I pity (some of) the people who killed their CPUs by rushing in.

rajagra - most motherboards handle thermal management on AMD kit. Of course... that doesn't always mean it works as it should.

I have actually swiched a PC running an Athlon XP on with the heat sink fan unplugged - the PC ran fine for several minutes until I finally thought "hey did i plug the fan into the header?" & switched it off.

Let me see now - AMD processors run cooler than Intel Prescotts, AMD64 has Cool'n'Quiet on the desktop - what do Intel have?

Intel have temperature sensors that work well enough to reduce power quickly enough to prevent damage - even if the heatsink has fallen off.

AMD are better than Intel in many ways, but give Intel credit where it's due - they got ONE thing right.

So do AMD these days :) - but no I'm not willing to test it (unless you are willing to pay for the consequences) :p
