    2gb ram...

sort of read the review of the ocz 2gb dc ram set here, sort of tempted, sort of kept checking prices, sort of thought 'i dont need 2gb, may need 2gb next year' thought hmmm, those latencies aren't great, thought i like ocz...

    then...

    Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2
    Latencies 2-3-3-6

In my local computer supplier, 2x1gb matched sticks... good god, best of both worlds? £300 though :/

had to think about it being early birthday present - will let you know what they like tomorrow

2gb isnt needed... yet. It will be though.

Though i dont need a 6800 either, for instand speed, yes, you're right, but planning a little for the future, (tough with PC's) I think getting the 2gb now and a 6800 of some desciption (thinking about the asus v9999 GE) in a couple of months is also viable and I end up with 2 spare dimm slots as a bonus

just really waiting for cenatek prices to come down too now

More memory the better.......I was told not to bother with 1 gig 18 months ago but I got it..can feel it in Il-2

If I had the dough I'd have 2 gig too

Fair play to ya mate. If you ever get into Movie Making it is worth its weight in gold, but for some games its good too

yeah, im actually playing a game at the moment with 512MB minimum, 1gb recommended... did kinda have that in mind too, and with 512 its horrible...

i dont do any movie making, but my other half does a lot of photoshop stuff, shes really into these layer things (reminds me of shrek for some reason!) and makes some quite stunning things with it. didnt think of trying to justify it like that to her cheers! maybe i'll escape too much punishment!!!

you should be ok to avoid her WRATH if you show her how MovieMaker works....

but you'll never get on your PC to PLAY ANY GAMES if she gets hooked.

Ignore them all.....64mb DDR vid cards went to 128 and everybody frowned...mainly cos slower ram was used to compensate for cost. Then the 128mb cards were essential....256 followed...etc etc.

    Same with good ram

Besides, for modern gaming, nice as tight timings are, I'd have 2 gig of slightly less tweaked ram than 1 gig of quick stuff. I tweak mine for benchmarks but knock it back off a bit for playing.

After a 12 hour LAN party with mates in a hot room on critical flight simming, you just dont want ANY instability

Oooooo - now you got me thinking. I do shedloads of stuff in PhotoShop and this would probably make a huge amount of sense for me.

Question: In my own thread, I have stated that I will be looking at 1 GB of Crucial memory (the recommended Custom PC 3200 stuff) and wondered how the Corsair Value Select you have would compare with it?

Its both quality, go for the cheapest. Crucial have unmatched after sales support though, their RMA service and general customer support is amazing.

/\ he's right....Crucial totally dominate the market in terms of looking after you. Nice packagibg, good support, and most people dont need to use the support anyway. But they are a bargain brand really. Their are better memory manufacturers for speedy stuff.

Me....Mr Boring, Mr "Fed up with things not working cos I saved money"... I now always get Crucial. It arrives it works. Job done.

This changed when they brought out the excellent Ballistix range, of course.

All you have to ask is:

Would the extra £150 be better spent else where (gfx, cpu, hdd, monitor). If yes, get a gig that will be plenty for a year or so, of not, get 2gb, that will be plenty for 2 years or so

Another thing is, do you upgrade regularly, if you do then 2gb is a waste of money because your only going to need to replace it in 6months time when that higher fsb board comes out or new type of ram.

I love Crucial as a company, they knock the socks off every other online retailer.

Their website is incredibly helpful - even a complete technophobe could find the right RAM for their computer.

And their customer support is absolutely first rate. I RMAed some RAM on Monday and got a replacement on Wednesday. No fuss, hardly any cost and exceptionally fast.

I've switched to Corsair RAM Value now though, so I guess I don't value superb customer service that highly.
