Chances of the cooler leaking is highly unlikely, so you guys should be fine. Just in case you run into any issues though, you let us know - a lot of members here (including me) will surely more than happy to assist you

I had a used H50. Was used for about 1.5 years. Myself I used for like 3 years before I heard the water pump make a horrible loud noise.

Careful about the H80 and H100 (non-i) versions. Their pumps had issues.

Don't just regurgitate web rumours - if you have actual proof of that assertion, then post a link.

For the record, I googled the so-called horror stories about these and still bought a refurb h80 from Scan. It's absolutely fine - no noise or vibrations from the pump - and it cools my CPU almost as well as my custom loop.

Re: Buying a refurbished cpu water cooler

Well I built my new rig this evening and apart from threading one hole on the radiator by over-tightening a fan, it was pretty painless. I had the fans in the case before seeing in the case manual they recommend it outside of the case but under the front panel, pulling air out.

I moved them there and it seems fine. It took about four hours and I've still to install the OS but everything is working and the H100 is doing its job. The hardest part with the setup was getting the bracket under the motherboard in place for the screws to sit in, not difficult, just a bit fiddly.

I wish I'd taken photos at each stage but I didn't even think about it until just now...

I've just put my refurb H80 in. colour me impressed. Its been running prime torture for about 30 minutes, and the temp is only 40c with the fans at 50% - don't know what the delta is as I don't have a room thermometer, but its not cold.

How about the official thread on this matter from the Corsair forums?

    http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=107252

Should probably clarify it affect some units. Nevertheless...

Corsair has now tracked down and fixed a rare and hard to reproduce issue on some of our Hydro series coolers, specifically the H60, H80, and H100 when used in combination with certain power supplies in certain circumstances. The failure will present itself as a buzz or hum, similar to a hard drive seek noise, and may disappear and reappear at random times. This issue affects a very small number of units, and typically is more prevalent on power supplies that provide higher than +12.2V on the +12V rail, which explains why some users have experienced multiple units with the same issue – they’re plugging them into the same power supply.

Regardless, this has since been corrected and we are now shipping units that do not experience the issue. If you’ve got a noisy H100, H80, or H60 unit, and the noise is coming from the pump (not the fans), we’d like to offer you a RMA. Please Contact us by using the link on the left and request an RMA to start a replacement with a known good unit.

Thank you, and we appreciate your patience as we corrected this issue.

Exactly the point I was making - sweeping generalisations based on reports of some issues aren't exactly helpful.

I wouldn't even worry about that noise issue at this point. That has been addressed and corrected long time ago. When we have put the fix in place and have rotated inventory, that particular issue was never to re surface again. All batches now are different from the time we have acknowledged that issue.

Greybeard, are all refurbished warranties extended to 1 year or just certain retailers?

Go for it! Reply back with a feedback if you don't mind, once you had your fun.
Could be a deciding point for future buyers.

Thanks. It only took about 20 minutes + leak testing. I've got the WC bug back a bit so I'm probably going to go with a full custom loop shortly but if you've got access to any dud h100 radiators putting a 2*240 system together would be interesting.
