depends you really want to go amd 64bit cpu is probably the way to go if your into games, i would suggest a 6800gt for graphics but whether your budget can inkeep with these to things i dont know i will post later.
Might help if you told us what you have now in case any of it is usable.
You're prolly looking at £450 for just a decent mobo/processor & 1gb of ram. Let alone another £260-£300+ for a good graphics card.
DFI Lan Party UT nf3 250gb MB = £76
A64 3000 (754) CPU = £116
1GB Crucial RAM £120
DABS Value 6800GT £258
Total £570 so drop to 512mb RAM
....
if your willing to go slightly over the 500 mark, go for what ed^chilgaik suggested, its not bad
I agree :)Quote:

That does look like the better deal , providing you can clock up the CPU well. Although its a safe bet with the CPU's coming at a lower than default core voltage anyway :)Quote:

A couple of months ago I would have said XP-m was the way to go but not anymore. The 2500+ mobile XP which runs at 1.8 stock even when overclocked to 2.4 ie somewhere around 3400+ is still no match for the A64 3000+. I've seen graphs to this effect and made mental note that XP is pretty much dead.
With the A64 3000+ you're starting point is on par with a moderately overclocked XP and with a good A64 motherboard you are certain to be able to overclock your A64 to some degree beyond what the XP can achieve on air.
If you can afford to go 939 on a £500 budget then fine but if not there is nothing wrong with a 754 setup particularly if you plan on keeping it for 2-3 years before your next upgrade.
