    JMB36X RAID Recovery Software

So I've two laptop HDDs pulled from an old laptop that died. I'm tasked with getting at the data which of course has emotional value (ie not enough value for standard backup practices).

Any suggestions? Figured I'd ask you guys first.

http://www.freeraidrecovery.com/ Looks OK so far. But don't want to waste time, so hoped someone would have some good ideas!

Not free (though they have a free "show what you could have won" deal), but http://www.diskinternals.com/raid-recovery/

or the usual deal with Getdataback. Neither are free, but nor should data recovery be when backup is so frickin' easy.

It wasn't me, its not my data.

I might stretch to $50, but $250 is waaaaaaay too much.

Getdataback has already been mentioned There are other products from runtime software that deals specifically with RAID systems which might be worth trying.

    http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-products.htm

Other option is to find a system with the same controller on it and mount the disks on it - if they are RAID1 you should only need to mount one and drag the data off the degraded array to somewhere safe.

If you want to be ultra cautious, you could clone the disk(s) completely and then work off the clones, then if you make a mistake you still have the originals to clone again.

Hmm I'll give this one a shot.

If the trail works I'll ask the data owner how valueable the data is. If they say enough to buy a USB HDD / NAS / Cloud Storage. I might spring for a license.

@Active Undelete has always served me well.

You can see the files and restore some for free in the demo to make sure it'll do what you want.
