    Sff lightroom/Transcode upgrade (£450)

    Good afternoon.

I'm looking to replace my existing Amd Phenom X3 720 rig with something that has a bit more grunt for lightroom or transcoding bluray to Hard drive.
Ideally looking for a small form factor kit. Needs to be quiet and energy efficient.

No or very minimal gaming as babies are rather time consuming (currently running ati 4830)

    Current specs :
    AMD phenom 970 x3
    Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H
    4gb Ocz reaper
    Samsung 256gb 830 SDD
    Windows 8 x64 pro
    Slimline blu-ray drive
    Keyboard and mouse

    12tb microserver

Currently looking at intel i5 4670t Or amd fx6300 based systems, both with 16gb ram. There doesn't appear to be much on the way of amd mini itx mobos, whereas the cost for the intel is higher but more efficient.

Budget for mobo, ram, CPU and case is £450-£500.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Have you looked at the A10 6800K?? The CPU is much faster than what you have got, although the IGP is slower for gaming, but probably better for GPU acceleration in CS6.

However,AMD Kaveri is meant to be released for desktop this year,so you might be better off waiting a bit longer??

    Hi Cat.

Yes, I've been looking at the a10 6800k as well, but the reviews I had read on it being overclocked compared against the fx showed quite a large thermal increase under load for a moderate over performance increase, whereas the fx had a little more headroom. This was on the basis of the sff/miniitx cases and he nwral thermal management

The A10 6700 is also another alternative,as it has most of the performance of the A10 6800K but with a lower TDP and power consumption.

TBH,unless the need is urgent,I would really wait and see how Kaveri pans out!

Yeah, i think i'll do that. I'm going to have a go at benchamrking this machine i.a.w your handbrake benchmark posts on these forums and see what I can expect.

    Thanks for the info!
